POST DOCTORAL SCHOLAR The University of Chicago . The Center for Advanced Radiation Sources (CARS) of the University of Chicago seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar (PDS) at GeoSoilEnviroCARS (GSECARS) synchrotron research facility at the Advanced Photon Source (APS), Argonne National Laboratory (ANL), near Chicago, IL.

The full-time position requires a Ph.D. in geology, physics, or related field and synchrotron research experience with large-volume press techniques. The PDS will conduct research on mechanical properties of materials at high pressures and temperatures, in both ductile and brittle regimes, using multianvil devices, especially Deformation DIA (D-DIA) and DDIA-30; participate in core research using D-DIA and DDIA-30; provide support for users from the multianvil high-pressure community using GSECARS beamlines; and work in core and collaborative research. The PDS will be involved in developing new techniques for collection and analysis of synchrotron data.

Excellent computer skills, verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, ability to satisfy requirements for access to ANL, and ability to work as a team player and independently are required. PDS appointment is for one year renewable for up to four years.
