EaSM Post-Doctoral Fellow

Job Opportunities at COLA – EaSM Post-Doctoral Fellow. The Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies has an exciting opportunity for an outstanding postdoctoral research scientist in the area of global climate change. The incumbent will join a new multi-institutional project for climate change experiments using a state-of-the-art climate model, SP-ESM (Super Parameterized Earth System Model). The selected candidate initially will design and conduct the numerical experiments following the CMIP5 protocols. Subsequently, incumbent will evaluate the effect of increased greenhouse concentrations on the Earth’s climate system. The analysis will include dynamical processes, extreme events, and coupled ocean-atmosphere feedback mechanisms in future climate scenarios. The successful candidate is also expected to take a leadership role in preparation of manuscripts for publication and conference participation.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related field, with experience in climate variability or climate change. Advanced programming skills using multi-processor supercomputer architectures are essential and previous experience with the Community Climate System Model (CCSM) is highly desirable.

The appointment will be for one year, with renewal for two years, given satisfactory performance. For consideration, interested and qualified applicants must submit a cover letter including a statement of research interests, a curriculum vita, and contact information of two professional references to the EaSM PostDoc Search Committee (Dr. Cristiana Stan, chairperson; stan@cola.iges.org). Applications received before 15 April 2011 will receive highest priority.
