Job Wanted: Geo-Information Analyst, Entry level

Shell Canada Ltd. is currently seeking a Geo-Information Analyst for full-time employment.

Recent graduates in Shell do real jobs from day one, making a contribution to the energy business right from the start. You will join a graduate development program, which is designed to provide you broad exposure to multiple aspects of the discipline in an environment over your first several years. Graduates move between roles after a duration that maximizes learning but still allows varied assignments and experiences.

During the first year of employment, the Geo-Information Analyst should expect to:

– Manage and improve the use of Geo-Information, GIS applications and workflows to enable Shell to meet business targets;
– Work with internal and external resources to develop tools and mechanisms to effectively deliver data to customer applications;
– Maintain services, improve delivery, align with global standards, and meet new challenges;
– Ensure compliance with agreed standards and align efforts with EP-18 – the global Shell Exploration & – Production (EP) Geomatics business model;
– Provide a portfolio framework to capture and manage all spatial data assets as well as provide a platform for the spatialization of data resources and their analysis;
– Manage special projects as required;
– Represent Shell Geomatics internally and externally during GIS related events; and
– Promote and preserve Health/Safety/Environment (HSE) through appropriate planning, auditing, and inspections.

Candidates must be authorized to work in Canada on a full-time basis.

Required: BS/MS degree in GIS/Geography or Geomatics Engineering

Ideal candidates will:

– Exhibit good communication and team working skills;
– Have strong academic record, related work experience and extracurricular/leadership involvement in their school or community;
– Demonstrate strong business sense and technical expertise in GIS, Geo-Information management, and related technologies;
– Exhibit continuous commitment to deliver step changes in terms of project efficiency and profitability;
– Not be afraid to challenge existing norms;
– Be able to apply intensive and diversified knowledge of GIS principles and practices;
– Have knowledge of designing, creating, editing, and maintaining shapefiles, geodatabases, CAD, models, scripts and metadata for numerous projects;
– Have awareness of design, documentation, implementation and maintenance of GIS standards, processes, procedures, and metadata;
– Have awareness of Spatial ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes and its benefit to a large base of diverse applications;
– Have a thorough understanding of coordinate reference systems and transformations;
– Exhibit strong leadership, organizational and planning skills
– Be an ambitious, energetic, self-motivated, self-managed, results-oriented team player.

Preferred skills:

– Exposure to GIS infrastructure (servers, storage, web technologies)
– Spatial programming skills/experience
