June 17, 2011

A two-year Postdoctoral position is available at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The successful candidate will work on two related projects using hydrological modeling to investigate the impacts of forest disturbance and climate change on the flow regime of forested watersheds. These are collaborative projects among several Canadian universities, the Government of Alberta and the new Water Program at Foothills Research Institute (FRI).

The Water Program is a collaborative initiative intended to develop an integrated team of experts that will produce watershed process knowledge. This post-doc position is expected to develop knowledge that will be needed by resource managers to address cumulative effects (land use and natural disturbance) on water values. The candidate will work as part of a team to use data and knowledge gained from the Southern Rockies Watershed Project (link below) to calibrate and validate a hydrological model. The candidate will be based at U of A and report to the Water Program, Program Lead. There will be additional guidance from a Senior Scientist, and a faculty member at U of Alberta, Edmonton.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in hydrology or a related field and demonstrated ability to use hydrological models in cold, forested environments. Programming skills (C#, R, VB, etc.), experience with hydrologic data collection in cold regions, and understanding of forest management will be considered assets. Position is available immediately, and review of applications will start June 30, 2011 and will continue until the position is filled. The salary will be commensurate with experience.

Applicants are asked to submit CV, and names and contact information of at least 3 academic references to Dr. Axel Anderson by email: aanderson@foothillsri.ca.
