DESCRIPTION: Humboldt State University’s Department of Environmental Science and Management invites applications for an academic year tenure-track faculty position in Geospatial Science.

RANK, SALARY AND BENEFITS: We seek to fill this position at the Assistant Professor level; however, rank and salary are dependent upon the appointee’s qualifications and experience.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in Geospatial Science, Natural Resources, Forestry, Geography, Environmental Science, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is preferred at the time of appointment. Applicants with considerable progress toward degree completion by appointment date will be considered. Completion of the terminal degree is required prior to the start of the second probationary year.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following:

• Record of (or potential for) effective teaching;
• Ability and interest in teaching a range of geospatial courses;
• Record of (or potential for) research, scholarly and/or creative activity involving graduate and/or undergraduate students;
• Technical expertise using ArcGIS suite of software;
• Job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the academic environment; and
• Ability and interest in preparing students to function in a culturally and ethnically diverse society.

Research interests that complement those of existing faculty in the College of Natural Resources and Sciences are preferred.

At the time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States. Evidence of degree(s) is required at time of hire.

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach in the Department of Environmental Science and Management. Instructional assignments will be consistent with the programmatic needs of the department. Teaching assignments may include: Introduction to GIS, Intermediate GIS, Advanced GIS, Geospatial Modeling, and Mobile Mapping. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, on-going research program involving students whenever possible.

The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship, and service to the University, profession and/or the community. These responsibilities include: advising students, participating in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participating in traditional academic functions.
