The University of Illinois at Urbana-Chanpaign is in need of a Lecturer or Visiting Assistant Professor!

Job Description
The Department of Geology, in the School of Earth, Society, & Environment, invites applications for a full-time Lecturer or Visiting Assistant Professor with research and teaching experience in sedimentology, stratigraphy, and/or paleobiology. Significant fieldwork and laboratory experience is desirable. The position requires an outstanding and innovative teacher in large and small classroom settings, field and laboratory environments, and in-person and on-line formats. Responsibilities will include introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses, supervision of graduate teaching assistants and specimen curation. The successful candidate needs to demonstrate success and enthusiasm in teaching, and have strong interpersonal skills. While the focus of this position is teaching, the candidate is strongly encouraged to maintain research activity.

The position starts no later than August 1, 2013. Applicants must have completed all requirements of a Ph.D. by the start date. Candidates with Ph.D. in hand, a strong publication record, an active research agenda and a year of teaching experience can be considered as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Candidates with a Ph.D. by time of appointment and teaching experience can be considered as a Lecturer. Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.

The successful applicant will be eligible to receive additional summer salary from research grants and/or summer-session teaching. The appointee will be evaluated annually. Pending successful evaluation, the appointment will last for two years and may be renewed contingent upon availability of funding and continued strong performance.
