Head of the Department “Palaeontology and Historical Geology” at the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum together with a Professorship (W2) for “Biogeology” at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main

The advertised professorship combines the function of Head of the Department “Palaeontology and Historical Geology” at the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum with a professorship for “Biogeology” at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. The Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN), with six research institutes and two museums in six federal states of Germany, conducts innovative natural history research and manages the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Messel Pit”.

The prospective candidate should document internationally recognised research experience in the field of biogeology. The candidate is expected to play an active role in the scientific management of the comprehensive paleontological collection of SGN and develop further research strategies to systematically use collection material in research projects. The scientific expertise should cover current aspects of systematics, paleo-ecology, paleo-environmental research or paleo-biodiversity. Cooperation with other research groups within the Goethe University, the SGN, and the Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (Biodiversität und Klima Forschungszentrum, BiK-F) is desirable. It is expected that the Professor will be involved in the BSc and MSc geosciences curriculum at the Goethe University; the teaching commitment is 2 contact hours per week. Furthermore, university/institutional self-administration tasks form an integral part of the job description. The designated salary for the position is based on “W2” on the German university scale or equivalent.
