Lecturer/Senior Lecturer – Climate Change Research Institute

School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences Wellington, New Zealand

We seek an energetic, articulate scientist, who is well qualified to lead our research into climate change adaptation strategies.

This position involves:

– Making major contributions to a current interdisciplinary research programme on vulnerability and resilience to climate change

– Developing new collaborative research strategies to extend our adaptation work

– Playing a key role in developing broader post-graduate education for this increasingly important field.

The CCRI was established in order to conduct interdisciplinary research, to increase the interactions between research and policy, and to develop tertiary education in this field. The Institute has quickly become involved in facilitating discussion and analysis of climate change issues; as well as coordinating and producing new research with a growing emphasis on links between the social and natural sciences.

The CCRI is situated within a School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, working closely with a School of Government and other parts of the University. Our research involves active collaboration with other universities and Crown Research Institutes in New Zealand, and our location in New Zealand’s capital city lets us enjoy strong links with policy makers in both local and national government. We have strong international links to world class research universities overseas, as well as to important international environmental institutions such as the IPCC.

Applicants should hold a PhD or similar qualification in one or more areas of environmental or relevant social science and/or policy that are related to climate change, as well as a strong publication record and commitment to high quality peer reviewed research. Experience in the science and policy environments is preferred. The successful applicant will also have interest and ability in developing teaching programmes, and excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of people.

Those interested in the position are encouraged to contact the CCRI’s Director Professor David Frame, (dave.frame@vuw.ac.nz or tel +64 4 463 6790). For further information and background visit our website at www.victoria.ac.nz/climate-change

Applications close 30 April 2013
