I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) www.imsg.com, leading a Scientific and Technical Support Team (IMSG Team, consisting of IMSG, Inc. and subcontracting companies) is looking for qualified science engineer candidates to support the NOAA weather satellites ground systems development at the National Satellite Operations Facility (NSOF) in Suitland, Maryland. Actual hiring of candidates will be in mid-August 2013.

Job Duties Include:

– Provides science and engineering support for the next generation NOAA weather satellites using industry standard software engineering techniques. Provides knowledge translation of satellite instrument detectors, detector spread functions, instrument design, radiometery, environmental attenuation, ephemeris, ground colocation, and atmospheric constituent retrieval techniques to computer system developers.
– Writes Interface Control Documents and similar technical document creation and organization. Maintains traceability of system requirements through design, implementation, testing, and documentation. Completes software development life cycle support.
– Provides consulting support for testing ESPC/ESPDS (operations and development) to
– NPP/IDPS interfaces (including future Polar orbiting weather satellites) and GOES GS interfaces.
– Works with NOAA government staff to coordinate science products, algorithm development, and science processing within the ESPDS Development. COTS selection, custom coding, and integration. GUI development and usability determination.

Requirements:

– 1-2 plus years of experience with real-time and off-line processing of satellite data, science algorithm development, instrument calibration and validation, image processing including mapping projection and content classification, design and implementation of advanced computer architectures including traditional and object oriented methodologies. In depth knowledge of Computer Science: operating system internals, code optimization, numerical analysis, and multidimensional trees structures.
– Knowledge of standards compliance for: ISO Metadata with remote sensing extensions, source code (C, FORTRAN, JAVA), ISO time and date standards, XML with style sheets, GPS capabilities for both ground systems and satellite.
– Knowledge of satellite operations including Command, Control, and Communication facilities.
– U.S. citizenship.

Desired Skills: Industry standard word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation packages. Familiarity with Service Oriented Architectures (JBoss, WS02, SOAP), Multiprocessing (grid, cloud, clusters, fine and coarse grain), and Oracle database capabilities. Excellent communication skills.

Education: BS or greater degree with formal course work in Aerospace, Electronics, Physics, and Computer Science.

Experience: One (1) to Two (2)-plus years of multidisciplinary technical experience with Earth satellite system.
