Tenure Track Faculty Position on GIS and Remote Sensing

The Department of Geosciences and Environment, California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA), seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level, starting in September 2014. A Ph.D. or ABD in Geology, Geography, Environmental Science, Soil Science, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education is required, with expertise in the following disciplines: GIS, Remote Sensing, and Hydrologic Modeling. A Ph.D. is required for retention after the initial two year appointment.

The successful applicant is expected to develop an active program of research and teaching in areas of specialization and to work with water resources and other departmental faculty to strengthen existing programs in GIS, remote sensing, hydrology, geology, and geography. The Los Angeles metropolitan area and surrounding mountain, desert, and coastal regions offer an unusually large variety of hydrological and environmental problems worthy of investigation.

Specific duties will include: teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; developing hydrology, GIS, and environmental science curriculum; maintaining an active research program; participating in University service; and advising undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates should demonstrate potential for effective teaching using various methodologies, and should also demonstrate an interest in teaching in a multicultural, multiethnic campus.
